MTEL-Flex Foundations of Reading (904 & 905)

Candidates who register for this option are required to prepare an organized, developed analysis on a topic related to Objective 0010 of the Foundations of Reading test framework.

Candidates will prepare a response by analyzing student data or examples and/or referencing one or more of the resources provided below to develop their topic and address the selected descriptive statement(s). In preparing their response, candidates may choose to use their own authentic student data or examples and/or sample data or examples from relevant coursework.

Resources from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

• Resources for analyzing, interpreting, and discussing accurately and appropriately the results of an assessment of foundational reading skills for an individual student
• Resources for building on a student's identified need in foundational reading skills
• Resources for using sound reasoning and knowledge of foundational skills are included in the "Fluent word reading" section of this webpage
• Resources by grade level for strategies, activities, or extensions for building on foundational skills are included in the "Foundational Skills" section of this webpage
