CASA (801/803)

The CASA—Reading and CASA—Writing subtests have been adopted by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. These subtests can be taken as an alternative to the Communication and Literacy Skills test in order to fulfill licensure requirements.

Format

Online-proctored test

(801) Reading: 40 multiple-choice questions
(803) Writing: 42 multiple-choice questions, 1 constructed-response assignment

Time

Tutorial and nondisclosure agreement: 15 minutes

(801) Reading: 75 minutes testing time
(803) Writing: 105 minutes testing time

Breaks

(801) Reading: No breaks are allowed.
(803) Writing: No breaks are allowed.

Test Dates

By appointment with an online proctor during one-week testing windows each month

Passing Score

240 per subtest; candidates must pass both subtests.

Examinees taking an online-proctored test will not receive preliminary test results or a receipt of completion when their subtest ends.
